Full-Scope Coverage for Pregnancy
Californians who are pregnant may receive Medi-Cal or MCAP coverage for all medically necessary services, plus dental and mental health services, while pregnant if otherwise eligible. This full-scope coverage extends for one year following the end of pregnancy (regardless of citizenship). The full-scope benefits include all medically necessary care, not just that related to the pregnancy.
To find more about the eligibility for these programs, see their websites. MCAP & Pregnancy Medi-Cal
Postpartum Coverage
As part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), individuals eligible for pregnancy and postpartum care services under Medi-Cal or the Medi-Cal Access Program (MCAP) are entitled to 12 months of postpartum care coverage. This coverage shall include the full breadth of medically necessary services during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This is automatic for all Medi-Cal or MCAP eligible individuals who report a pregnancy or are postpartum, regardless of immigration status or how the pregnancy ends.
